It's not really a secret garden but when you go into the backyard you may feel like you are in one. Much of what I know about gardening I have learned from my parents. My mom has had a garden most places that we lived- even when she was in the Army and we lived on base in Pusan, South Korea. Back then it was a very humble garden and today it is really something to see. I like how their garden is on an incline. It makes it seem like the veggies are on display! They have a variety of vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers growing in the garden.
Herbs
Their garden boasts of several cooking herbs like french tarragon, parsley, dill, sage, German thyme, marjoram, lemon balm, basil, mint and sage.
Vegetables
So many types of winter squashes with coiling vines- pumpkin, acorn, delicata, spaghetti squash, golden acorn, blue hubbard and on and on. The summer squash bushes are at peak production and are waist high. They are growing huge tomato plants and a bed full of potatoes which are just about ready to dig up. There is lettuce, bell peppers, eggplants, onions and carrots.
Fruit
My parents have a large backyard and this allows them to have huge fruit trees and bushes. At the very top of the garden they have some young grapevines, huge apple and pear trees and a crab apple tree. They have some red raspberry and black raspberry bushes along the fence. They are also growing sugar baby watermelons and have a productive strawberry patch. Who wouldn't want to hang out back here and munch all day?
Flowers
My mom mixes in a quite a few flowers into her garden. There is always something in bloom to look at.
