I have yellow and white onions growing out back. The onions are quite ready yet however they have some large green tops growing. They are probably about 18 inches tall. I read somewhere that it is good to cut the tops off 2-3 times while the onions are growing. The green tops will grow right back. I thought it was such a waste to just throw them out or compost them so I got to thinking about what I can do with them. So I remembered that I used to buy this green onion dip mix from the store. It was just a little packet that you mix into sour cream. I figured out how to make it myself.
I cut the onion tops off and washed them. Then I cut them into 1 inch bits and put them onto the dehydrator. Once they were dried, I added them into the coffee bean grinder and made them into a fine powder. I keep the powder stored in a glass jar.
Green Onion Dip:
Ingredients:
1 cup sour cream
1/2 tsp green onion powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp chicken or beef bouillon granules
a few drops of Worcestershire sauce
Combine the dry ingredients with one cup of sour cream. Grab some chips and dig in!
